The idea behind the Congress is to establish an international platform for students to share ideas, knowledge and experience in the field of art history and other related studies. Year after year, students from numerous European universities gather in Zagreb to present their latest research to their colleagues and the academic community.
The theme of the 8th International Congress of Art History Students is
Imago: between local and global identity
Images as forms or expressions of identity in local and global perspectives
The meaning of the word image, as it is used now, is closer to its Latin etymological root (imago, -inis, f.) and extends beyond traditional semantic boundaries of art history that comprise painting, sculpture and other forms of artistic representation. In our world, the term image can be universally applied to different kinds of visual expression.
Images, self-images, selfies, global image, local image, taking care of one’s image… we are surrounded by the notion of image much more than Mitchell’s pictorial turn announced not long ago.
